About the Production
In April 2015, I had the privilege to be the stage manager for the Roial Player’s production of Golden Land, an original production written and directed by Jenny Crakes. The play tells the story of three Jewish sisters who immigrate from Russia to the United States in the late 18th century. This production was one of Roial’s most well attended and most profitable shows in the organization’s history. It was also one of the most technically challenging. As stage manager, I was in charge set construction and design, preparing sound effects a light cues, coordinating the stage and technical crew, the movement of set pieces, the timeliness of actors, and more. This was a huge undertaking for a first time stage manager, but I couldn’t be happier with the results. To make my job easier, I created Roial’s first call board, something that professional production managers and stage manager use to organize information and let actors know what’s going on.
